However, things get exciting when a very old house with a very diverse refurbishment portfolio and a heat supply that has grown over the years is to be brought up to date - as in the farmhouse in Lower Saxony presented here . With the help of an experienced master installer and heating engineer from Schwarme, technical building services planners and energy efficiency experts, the old farmhouse was equipped with two cascaded air/water heat pumps and made fit for the future in terms of heating.

In existing properties where a decentralized heating solution was used, this is a challenge. As an air/air heat pump cannot produce domestic hot water, additional concepts for domestic hot water preparation such as electronic instantaneous water heaters are important.
