BEG subsidies for our systems

Never before has the use of renewable energies and energy-efficient measures in building renovations been promoted as effectively as through the Federal Funding for Efficient Buildings (BEG) program. Government subsidies can cover up to 70 percent of eligible costs for heating system renovations, for example. But what do you need to bear in mind when applying for funding? Which products are eligible for funding? And who can benefit from the extensive subsidies? We explain everything and help you get closer to your funding.

The current political situation

The current situation

The continuation of the BEG subsidy programs has been confirmed.

At the end of 2024, applications for BEG subsidies gained particular momentum. In both November and December of last year, the number of applications skyrocketed. This was due, among other things, to uncertainty about the continuation of the subsidy program in 2025. Now, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK) has provided clarity.

According to information from the BMWK, the BEG programs, which also include the KfW heating replacement programs, will "continue as usual without interruption" at the beginning of 2025. Applications can still be submitted without restriction, and subsidies can also be claimed after December 31, 2024.

This is evident from the circular issued by the acting Federal Minister of Finance, Jörg Kukies, on provisional budget management.

Here, the Federal Ministry stipulates that all budgets that have not been discussed or voted on by the German Bundestag's Budget Committee must be based on the government draft of August 16. It also states that, among other things, the budget titles for BEG funding and BEW heating network funding can be utilized in full.

This means that the previous subsidy rates and maximum limits of the BEG subsidy guideline will apply until further notice. Anyone who is currently planning to modernize their heating system should not wait and should take advantage of the attractive BEG subsidy now.

CHALLENGING AND ENCOURAGING – THE INTERACTION BETWEEN GEG AND BEG

A LOOK AT THE DEVELOPMENT OF FUNDING

On January 1, 2024, the Building Energy Act (GEG) came into force. Almost simultaneously, subsidies for building renovation measures were also adjusted. In doing so, the legislator is pursuing the principle that the implementation of required efficiency measures on and in buildings remains affordable.

Attractive for lower household incomes

The structure of the amended BEG subsidy has remained unchanged. In addition, household income now plays an important role. Households with a taxable annual income of less than €40,000 will receive an additional bonus of 30% under the new BEG. If the maximum eligible costs are utilized, this amounts to an additional subsidy of up to €9,000.

The BEG at a glance

Federal funding for efficient buildings contributes to the implementation of the climate protection program. By improving the energy efficiency of buildings and increasing the use of renewable energies, CO2 emissions in the building sector are to be significantly reduced.

To this end, the BEG is providing three subprograms designed to cover the entire spectrum of building renovation:

  • the "Federal Funding for Efficient Buildings - Residential Buildings" (BEG WG),
  • Federal funding for efficient buildings – non-residential buildings (BEG NWG)
  • and the "Federal Funding for Efficient Buildings - Individual Measures" (BEG EM).

We have summarized the individual provisions for you.

BEG - Improving energy efficiency in existing buildings

The BEG provides subsidies for the implementation of many measures that lead to improved energy efficiency in existing buildings. In addition to measures relating to the building envelope, subsidies are also available for measures in the area of plant and heating technology. This is where our energy-efficient systems can play to their strengths: both in operation and in terms of the subsidized acquisition and installation costs.

Air-to-air systems benefit in every application

Whether office buildings, hotels, or shops—air conditioning systems often provide greater comfort and well-being in these buildings. And where they are lacking, there is a growing desire among customers and operators to have them retrofitted. Regardless of whether the systems are being replaced or newly installed in existing buildings, BEG offers attractive funding opportunities. Those who also use the M Series, Mr. Slim, or City Multi systems for heating can benefit particularly from the current subsidies.

Air-to-air heat pumps

Did you know? Air-to-air heat pumps are considered fully-fledged heating systems and are eligible for the same subsidies as water-based heat pumps. Find out about the current status of BEG subsidies.

High subsidies for heating heat pumps

Heat supply is responsible for a large proportion of CO2 emissions in the building sector. Forward-looking heating systems, such as Ecodan air-to-water heat pumps or Geodan ground-source heat pumps, ensure noticeable reductions in emissions with high efficiency – especially when they are powered by electricity from renewable energy sources. The government rewards the use of heat pumps with particularly high subsidies – both in residential and non-residential buildings.

Chillers and large heat pumps are also eligible for subsidies.

Depending on individual requirements, chillers can also be used for room cooling in commercial applications. Like direct evaporation systems, their use is subsidized by the BEG (German Energy Agency) if the relevant minimum requirements are met. Air- or water-cooled systems can also be used as large heat pumps for heat supply.

Efficient ventilation systems are eligible for subsidies

The energy-efficient renovation of the building envelope ensures a tight building envelope, for example with external insulation and new windows and doors. In this case, a ventilation system is the solution that ensures energy-efficient air exchange. Ventilation systems with heat recovery, such as Lossnay, are therefore also included in the list of eligible equipment.
