With our latest product expansion, we at Mitsubishi Electric are once again underscoring our high standards for sustainability: Starting in July 2026, the MEHP-iB-G09 series—Mitsubishi Electric’s new air-cooled, reversible air-to-water heat pumps—will be available on the market, operating on the R290 refrigerant. Thanks to a very low GWP value of 0.02 (IPCC AR6), the refrigerant fully meets decarbonization targets in accordance with the requirements of the F-Gas Regulation.

With a capacity range of 12 to 38 kW, the compact MEHP-iB-G09 units - which are eligible for BEG subsidies - are particularly well-suited for comfort applications in commercial settings. For higher capacity requirements, up to four units can be connected in cascade as standard; solutions with more than four units are also available upon request. Available in three housing sizes (12 to 18 kW; 21 to 29 kW; 29 to 38 kW), this monoblock heat pump delivers SCOP LT values of up to 4.97 and SCOP MT values of up to 3.73. This makes the series the ideal solution for high comfort requirements combined with reduced energy consumption. Designed for monovalent heating operation, the heat pump delivers its full heating capacity even at outdoor temperatures as low as –5°C. The maximum flow temperatures are 75°C.

– Thanks to the plug-and-play monoblock solution

Designed for outdoor installation, the unit is delivered as a plug-and-play monoblock solution, which greatly simplifies installation. From the variable-speed EC pump to the expansion tank, flow switch, and strainer: all relevant hydraulic components are already integrated. The same applies to the safety functions and components, which are specifically designed to meet the requirements of A3 refrigerants. A gas separator, two safety valves for the hydraulic circuit, and a maintenance-free refrigerant leak sensor are fully integrated into the unit. This eliminates the need to install additional components on-site, which also contributes to simplified system integration. The only requirement is to maintain the safety zone specified by the manufacturer.

Safety Plan for A3 Refrigerants

The MEHP-iB-G09 is equipped with inverter-controlled scroll compressors from Mitsubishi Electric, which were specifically developed for use with R290 refrigerant and ensure stable, efficient operation across the entire operating range with a reliable heat supply even at low temperatures. The fully charged and tested refrigeration circuit contains no screw connections or safety valves. Thanks to a hydrophilic coating on the copper-aluminum heat exchanger, the number of defrost cycles can be reduced and their duration shortened. To counteract ice formation in the lower section and thus ensure a more effective and reliable defrost process, the units are equipped with two-phase injection in the air-cooled heat exchanger.

Intelligent Control for Optimal Performance

Among the most important innovations in the product line are advanced control functions that optimize heating output. For example, the “Constant Heating Output” function maintains a constant nominal heating output down to –5°C, allowing users to select a unit that is up to two size classes smaller than previous models. Compared to the previous R32 series, this offers a clear price advantage, as up to 20% more heating capacity is available. Thanks to optimized control algorithms, the “Boost Function” enables a nominal heating capacity that is up to 10% higher.

For systems with multiple units, the W3000+ control system features a master-client function. It enables coordinated control of up to four units within the same hydraulic system, as well as modular configurations with a total installed capacity of up to approximately 160 kW. Remote access to the unit is possible via the integrated KIPlink interface.

Algorithms stored in the controller display the electrical power consumption, cooling or heating capacity, and the unit’s efficiency, and allow these figures to be compared with previous periods. This ensures compliance with BEG requirements without the need to install on-site measuring devices. This sensorless energy management system offers a clear cost advantage. Night mode also ensures a high level of comfort by reducing noise levels, making the new heat pump the ideal solution even for noise-sensitive applications. While the bivalence control allows for the activation of alternative or additional heat sources, it also enables the control of both a low-temperature and a high-temperature zone. The 3-way valve required for domestic hot water management is controlled directly via the MEHP-iB-G09’s integrated control logic, enabling coordinated operation and simplified system configuration.

The power range will soon be expanded upward to include the MEHP-iS-G09 series of units. A single unit will then be capable of delivering power up to 150 kW.
