CO2 savings for non-residential buildings, too

Blog article 07.02.2024

In addition to residential buildings, the commercial environment also offers a wide range of opportunities to reduce CO2 using modern technology. Non-residential buildings are therefore also moving into the focus of both individual and systematic measures. Modern cooling and heating technology systems reduce, thanks to their efficient operation, harmful emissions considerably.

The federal funding for efficient buildings (BEG) also supports the use these modern systems. Both efficient chillers for room cooling and large heat pumps for heat generation in non-residential buildings are subsidised.

Getting funding for room cooling technology

Funding for room cooling

In the area of systems technology, the BEG funding takes into account chillers that fulfil the corresponding minimum requirements. When used in non-residential buildings, the measure is subsidised with 15 % of the eligible costs. These are limited to € 500 per square metre of net area and calendar year.

Before the online application is submitted, an energy efficiency expert must prepare a corresponding technical project description. The experts then receive a TP-ID with which the application can be submitted to BAFA.

The installation of numerous air-cooled and water-cooled chiller series from the Climaveneta product brand can be subsidised. The product list contains all eligible devices with the relevant technical data.

Large heat pumps can also be subsidised

Funding of large heat pumps

Many of the chillers can be used in operation as heat pumps. If they then fulfil the minimum technical efficiency requirements and are tested and certified accordingly by independent institutes, they are also subsidised as heat generators according to BEG.

Energy efficiency experts do not need to be involved in this case, as the tested heat pumps are listed directly with BAFA. When applying, they can directly be selected from the list of eligible products in the online form.

Large heat pumps are generally subsidised with 30 % of the eligible costs. For non-residential buildings up to 150 m², this means a lump sum of 30,000 euros. For buildings with a net floor area of up to 400 m², up to 200 euros per m² can be recognised. For buildings up to 1,000 m² an additional € 120 per m² and from 1,000 m² an additional € 80 per m² are paid.

INTEGRA systems in the BEG funding programme

BEG funding

In addition to conventional large heat pumps, the Climaveneta product brand provides the innovative INTEGRA system. It allows 4-pipe applications for simultaneous cooling and heating operation. In many series, this innovative solution is also subsidised as a heat generator in the individual BEG measures – with the subsidies described above. The attached list provides an overview of the products eligible for funding.

Heating and room air conditioning are also eligible for funding in case of systematic measures

Note: The funding for new constructions mentioned in the BEG has currently been cancelled.

The funding of systematic measures does not concern individual measures or areas, such as room air conditioning. Instead, all projects that result in an energy efficiency level for the building are considered as an overall measure.
