Planning your air conditioning system

Planning your air conditioning system

Important questions for making the right choice

Should the air conditioning system only cool or also heat?
Modern split air conditioning units have an integrated heating function and work like an air-to-air heat pump in heating mode. Especially in the transitional periods – in spring and fall – it ensures pleasant temperatures without having to activate the main heating system. Under certain conditions, it can also replace the heating system – in which case you can benefit from government subsidies.

Do you want to air condition just one room or several?
Our single split systems consist of one indoor unit and one outdoor unit – ideal for air conditioning individual rooms such as bedrooms. If you want to air condition your entire house, a multi split system is the optimal solution! Here you can connect up to eight indoor units to just one outdoor unit, allowing you to air condition several rooms flexibly.

Where should indoor and outdoor units be placed?
Correct positioning affects the efficiency and ease of maintenance of the system. Careful planning ensures even temperature distribution and quiet operation. Thanks to a wide range of indoor units, the systems can be optimally integrated into your living spaces: wall-mounted units, floor-standing units, chest units, and ceiling-mounted cassette and duct units.

Which filter solution suits my needs?
Choosing the right filter depends on your individual requirements. Allergy sufferers benefit from special filters that effectively remove dust, fine dust, pollen, mold spores, and animal hair from the air. If you use your air conditioner near the kitchen or want to reduce tobacco odors, you should opt for powerful odor filters. For a particularly hygienic indoor climate, special solutions filter viruses and bacteria from the air.

BEG subsidy for air-to-air heat pumps

Are you planning to use your air conditioning system for heating, i.e. as an air-to-air heat pump? If so, under certain conditions you can secure attractive subsidies from the Federal Government's program for efficient buildings (BEG).

Subsidies are available for replacing old fossil fuel heating systems and adding sustainable heating solutions. In addition to the purchase costs, subsidies are also available for professional installation and planning and construction support services.

Understanding technology – Mitsubishi Electric technology highlights

Understanding technology

Horizontal swing: Even air distribution for greater comfort

To ensure that the cooled or heated air is distributed optimally throughout the room, many Mitsubishi Electric air conditioners are equipped with a horizontal swing function. The air outlets automatically swing from left to right, distributing the air gently and evenly throughout the room. This prevents unpleasant temperature differences and drafts. Whether on hot summer days or in the cooler months, the even air distribution ensures a comfortable indoor climate all year round.

3D i-see sensor: Intelligent climate control thanks to person detection

Mitsubishi Electric's 3D i-see sensor takes climate comfort to a whole new level. Using precise sensor technology, the system not only detects the temperature distribution in the room, but also the number and position of people. Based on this information, the air conditioning system automatically adjusts the airflow direction and intensity—depending on whether direct cooling is desired or should be avoided. In addition, smart detection helps to save energy by cooling or heating empty areas less. This allows you to enjoy a perfectly balanced indoor climate with maximum comfort and high efficiency at all times.

Frequently asked questions about air conditioning systems, which we are happy to answer

Frequently asked questions
How loud is an air conditioner?

With a sound pressure level of just 19 decibels at a distance of one meter from the unit, Mitsubishi Electric offers one of the quietest air conditioners on the market. Your ears perceive this noise level as even quieter than the sound of leaves rustling in the wind. The units are therefore virtually silent and ideal for cooling your bedroom, for example. This means you can sleep comfortably with the windows closed. Disturbing ambient noise can stay outside. The outdoor units have vibration-damped compressors and particularly quiet fans. This means that your neighbors will not be disturbed by the operation of the unit. On some units, the noise level can be reduced by a further 3dB(A) in night mode.

How much electricity does an air conditioner use?

Mitsubishi Electric air conditioning systems are designed to be energy efficient. This is mainly due to the energy-efficient inverter technology in the outdoor units, which continuously adjusts to the actual cooling or heating requirements. The units thus achieve energy efficiency classes of up to A+++.

The exact costs for operating your system will depend on the specific characteristics of your rooms and your usage requirements. Unlike other household appliances such as refrigerators, however, air conditioning systems for domestic use are only used seasonally and not continuously. This means that you can consciously control the power consumption of your air conditioning unit at any time by setting the target temperature and the duration of use. If available, it is also possible to connect the system to your own photovoltaic system.

Can an air conditioner create drafts?

Mitsubishi Electric air conditioning units have various functions to prevent draughts. They have flexibly adjustable airflow louvers that can be controlled both horizontally and vertically. If desired, they can even generate an almost horizontal airflow that initially runs along the ceiling and then gradually descends. The 3D i-see sensor detects the number and position of people in the room and directs the airflow away from them.

Can you catch a cold from air conditioning?

No. The important thing is to maintain and adjust your air conditioning system correctly.

Regular filter cleaning:

Mitsubishi Electric air conditioners are equipped with various filters through which the room air flows during air conditioning. Depending on the filter type, negative environmental factors such as dust, pollen, bacteria, viruses, or dirt can be filtered out. Just like with a vacuum cleaner or extractor hood, these filters must be cleaned at regular intervals to ensure that the room air is cleaned properly. If this is done, an air conditioner improves the quality of the room air rather than worsening it.

Correct room temperature setting:

It is just as important not to set the desired room temperature too low. A difference of just a few degrees from the warmer outside temperature is enough to ensure a pleasant indoor climate in summer.

How are air conditioning systems and allergies related?

First, the most important information on this question: As a rule, it is very unlikely that air conditioning systems trigger allergies or are associated with allergic reactions. This is because modern, well-maintained air conditioning systems serve exactly the opposite purpose: to purify the air in the room and improve indoor air quality.

This frequently asked question stems from the fact that air conditioning systems, if not regularly maintained, can release microorganisms into the room. These can then accumulate in the system and escape into the room during operation. In some people, this can lead to allergic reactions or symptoms such as a sore throat or cough.

We recommend having the filter system in an air conditioning unit cleaned regularly by a qualified specialist company. If this is taken into account, the air conditioning unit will improve the air quality: pollen, allergens, bacteria, or even viruses can be filtered out of the air, depending on the filter system selected. Your air conditioning unit therefore not only ensures a pleasant room temperature, but also increases your living comfort.

What impact does air conditioning have on the environment?

Air conditioning systems work with refrigerants. The term refrigerant is the general name for gas mixtures used in devices that transfer heat energy from the ambient air to another medium such as air or water. Such devices include refrigerators, car air conditioning systems, and heating heat pumps.

The refrigerants R32 and R290 used in current devices are particularly environmentally friendly and sustainable.

How does a split air conditioner work?

Each split air conditioning system consists of an outdoor unit and at least one indoor unit. The outdoor unit is always located outside the apartment or house. Depending on your requirements and the number of rooms to be air-conditioned, there are two ways you can use your M-Series system: as a single split system for one room or as a multi-split system for several or particularly large rooms.
