High-temperature water-to-water heat pump
High-temperature water-to-water heat pump for temperatures up to 78 °C
Professional article 23.06.2025The EW-HT series from Climaveneta
Conventional heat pumps often reach their limits or do not work efficiently in heating systems or for the production of domestic hot water when high temperatures are required. For such requirements, water-to-water heat pumps serve as a booster to raise an existing temperature level to the required level. In our specialist article (from “planbar”) you will find details about Functionality, areas of application, dimensioning, design and product details.
Mode of operation
Functionin combination with an existing heat source
This Climaveneta EW-HT series is a water-to-water high-temperature heat pump that draws energy from an existing heat source, cools it down and makes the extracted heat available to a high-temperature consumer circuit. The source temperature can be between 12 °C and 40 °C. In the process, consumer circuit temperature is between 55 °C and 78 °C.
Areas of application
Applicationfrom blocks of flats to industry
If the required temperature level cannot be achieved by conventional heat pumps, water-to-water heat pumps are the perfect addition. Examples include applications in which the majority of consumers are panel heatings or fan coil units, but individual areas still have radiators that require a higher temperature level. In this functional interaction, the use of panel heatings with a low temperature level and the required production of domestic hot water is also interesting. Other areas of use can also be found in process applications or in the utilisation of waste heat from waste water.
Typical applications
- Residential complexes / blocks of flats
- Hospitals & elderly-care facilities
- Fitness centres
- Wellness & SPA
- Hotels
- Old buildings
- Refurbishments
- Industrial and process applications
- Waste heat from waste water
- DHW cylinder
- Radiators
- Air heaters
- Plate heat exchangers for individual application

Dimensioning and possible combinations
DimensioningWhen dimensioning the air-cooled heat pump, it must be taken into account that it should be designed to be larger, depending on the simultaneity factor of the consumers and the demand for domestic hot water. The EW-HT device series can also be perfectly combined with the 4-wire systems of the INTEGRA series. With INTEGRA units, cooling and heating energy is transferred to a cold and hot water circuit simultaneously or independently of each other. One or more EW-HT units draw energy from the hot water circuit in order to increase the temperature level for other hot water consumers.
Setup
SetupSchematic diagram
This diagram shows the combined use of an air-cooled heat pump with an EW-HT. Heating energy required for panel heaters, fan coil units or ventilation units is provided by the air-cooled heat pump. A temperature level of e.g. 40 °C is used by the EW-HT to provide e.g. 70 °C for drinking water production

Product details
DetailsEW-HT series
The unit has two independent refrigeration circuits, each fitted with an optimised scroll compressor and electronic expansion valves. In order to minimise the space required, the heat exchangers for source and consumer circuits are designed as compact plate heat exchangers. Only just over 1 m² of installation space is required – regardless of the 8 different performance capacities. The sound level can be reduced by a further 4 dB(A) using an optional thermal insulation. A further option is the connection to a building management system via various protocols. Additional accessories such as soft start, various setpoint shift options and a line limiter are also available. The output range of the EW-HT appliance series varies depending on temperature levels. It ranges from 35 kW to 130 kW with a inlet temperature of 65 °C and a source temperature of 12 °C or from 70 kW to 280 kW with a maximum inlet temperature of 7 °C and a source temperature level of 45 °C. To cover higher outputs or to set up a redundant system, the Sequencer and the Manager3000+ provide various cascade controllers.

Summary
ConclusionMain points and advantages
- EW-HT appliances are the ideal solution whenever different temperature levels – of e.g. 35 °C for surface heating and up to 78 °C for radiators or for domestic hot water production – are required.
- Other fields of use include the utilisation of waste heat from industrial or IT applications.
- In a further step towards achieving the climate targets, the use of fossil fuels is completely avoided.
- Further advantages: Utilisation of renewable energies, reduced CO2 emissions, achievement of climate targets, no gas or oil required
